This can be quite a complicated topic! However, choosing size of boule is the most critical part, there is a tool inside the shed to assist with this.
Next would be choosing weight which is more of a personal choice, as well as different patterns and the hardness of the boule.
We do have some sets you are able to try.
Again, if you are unsure please do speak to one of coaches who will be happy to talk to you about the benefits of different boule.
-
There are a number of retailers in the UK, as well as in France. The mains ones are:
Pen-Y-Coed Petanque – https://www.pycpetanque.com/
DC Petanque – https://www.dcpetanque.net/#/
Petanque Shop – https://en.petanqueshop.com/
Decathlon – https://www.decathlon.co.uk/sports/boules-and-petanque
When purchasing boule you should look to purchase competition boule not leisure boule.
-
Competition boule are manufactured to a high standard, come in a selection of sizes and weights and include stamps with the weight, manufacturers mark and boule type.
A leisure boule will come in a stand size (typically 74mm) and an unknown weight. These boule are sometimes also filled with sand and are not permitted for use in competitions.
-
There is an accident book in the shelter. It is to be filled in at the time of the accident. If you cannot do it yourself, someone will do it for you.
-
Yes - If someone want to play they are able to have 5 taster sessions before they to decide whether to join the club. However, this is not permitted at club coaching sessions. If it’s a one-off session, ask a member of the committee for advice.
-
For internal competitions there is no requirement. Numerous Southern Counties and Petanque England competitions require you to hold a competition player membership. Details of requirements are stipulated on competition notices and leaflets.
